In
her series “Obscured Women”, storyteller/teaching
artist and performer,
Tammy Denease Richardson, introduces
us into the world of fascinating women who have been obscured through
the annals of history yet were prominent in the African-American community.
From
her research, Ms. Richardson has developed performances and workshops appealing
to a wide variety of audiences.
These
workshops and presentations engage her audience through folk tales
that teach life lessons and are coupled with hands on activities
that leave her audience educated and eager to learn more.
Venture
with Ms. Richardson from the cotton fields of Texas to aviation history in
Paris France with Bessie Coleman.
Live
the life of Elizabeth Keckley, an enslaved woman, struggling to
purchase her freedom as well as her body to become confidante to
the First Lady at Lincoln's White House.
Be
denied the rite of passage into adulthood, as you experience the
life of Margru, one of four children aboard the Amistad.
PROGRAMS
FOR SCHOOLS AND LIBRARIES
As a storyteller/teaching artist, Ms. Richardson
has a school program that can match your schools language arts
curriculum. It encourages students in the fields of history,
geography, science, mathematics, reading and writing.
Each program includes an in class visit
that consists of a hands on activity and history of time period.
